Pregnant in America

If you haven't had the chance to see this movie yet, it is available in it's entirety on hulu right now (see below). It is good at showing some of the limitations and failures in American birth practices, as well as gives clear information on what we can do to make our outcomes better.

The downside is that it is militantly anti-hospital and the producer is a little far on the conspiracy tail. :) Worth the watch, though, IMHO, if you can take it all with a grain of salt and a critical eye.

I watched this on Netflix the other day, and I just felt mad again. About how we view birth in this country, and all of the options and knowledge most women don't have access to. I don't feel strongly enough to consider doing things as an 'activist' about almost anything, but about this I totally do. Any ideas about how I can get involved in my community in educating women on all the options and how amazing birth can be?

How wonderful that you want to share with your community! You could do something as easy as host a screening of this movie at your local library, organize a 'birth options' night and ask local doulas, midwives, and childbirth educators to come speak on a panel, or a number of other things.

It doesn't have to be big, or elaborate, just being a voice in your community will plant the seed in a lot of women looking for more options. :)
