MamAmor Knows, Do You?

Did you know that May is International Doula Month? MamAmor knows it! Adriana is the creative genius behind these beautiful dolls (along with her great team) and is a doula herself (see her interview here).

Adriana has a Facebook Page here, and a beautiful website here. Be sure to check out both as she has so many beautiful mamas to offer!

Now, how does Adriana and the MamAmor team celebrate International Doula Month? With a giveaway!

I feel privileged to introduce everyone to Julia!

Julia is a one of a kind Pregnant, Birthing, and Breastfeeding MamAmor Doll. As with all MamAmor Dolls, she was made with a lot of Vit L (love) and attention to detail. Each MamAmor doll is very unique, and like real mamas, they are all different.

MamAmor dolls demonstrate normal, natural birth, breastfeeding and bonding. Mama Dolls are 18 to 20 inches long, babies are 5 inches long. Dressed, mama and baby weight approximately 500 grams.

Julia wears a lovely blue breastfeeding smock, dark blue jean capris, and a pair of cotton, hand-crocheted shoes.

Julia's lovely locks are fashionably short and full, with accented highlights framing her beautifully whimsical smile.

She can give birth and breastfeed her newborn baby....many times, and anywhere!

I have to say that I am mightily thrilled with Julia! When Adriana showed me her pictures, the first thing I thought of was 'she looks like me when I have my hair short' (see here or here).

Julia is worth $145, and the winner only needs to pay for shipping! It is so. very. easy to enter to win.. Just three steps:
  1. If you aren't a fan/liker of hers on FB, be sure to become one (unless you don't have a Facebook account, then just skip to step 2).
  2. Share this giveaway with someone, somehow (email, blog, Twitter, Facebook... - If I draw you as a winner, I might just ask for proof of this :))

    • DOULAS: "how can/could/do you use your MamAmor doll in your practice?"
    • MAMAS, CBEs, and MWs: "how do you plan to educate your community about doulas this month?"
Entries must be received by MAY 31st at MIDNIGHT, CST. Remember. the winner will have to pay only for shipping! Shipping to Canada is $18, to USA is $25 and to the rest of the world is $37.

Happy International Doula Month!
As a midwife I will be educating the public about doulas with a fellow midwife at a Whole Life Expo this weekend. Doulas play an important role to childbearing women, especially in a hospital setting. Too bad we do not already have a doll to sit at our table this weekend. What a wonderful way to "naturalize" birth for all and especially the proceeding generations.

As a mother and holistic nutritionist, breastfeeding awareness and education is very important to me personally as well as within my practice. If I were to win Julia and her baby, I would love to proudly display her at the clinic; however, I would likely give her to my three-year-old daughter instead (she is also quite the breastfeeding advocate. :) In honour and appreciation of International Doula Month, I have been promoting and fundraising for a local doula/lactation consultant and friend as she continues her amazing work in our community. I know several wonderful doulas in my area and always know that any clients I refer are in good hands.

I am a big natural childbirth advocate, & feel it is very important to educate all women about their bodies & what an Amazing thing childbirth is. My aunt is a doula, currently training to become a midwife, & ever since I was a young child I was around midwives & doulas. I Love MamAmor Dolls, and I know that Lila would love some company. ;)

I am a fan on facebook.

Shared on facebook as well.

As a birth doula and childbirth educator I could use this doll to teach the practical aspects of birth and breastfeeding in a non-clinical or intimidating. I'd particularly like to teach laboring positions with this doll---wonder if she makes mini birth balls!

I will find more doula's in my area and promote their importance in my Breastfeeding Classes. I have been having more and more mothers ask me if I can recommend a doula for them, so, it is becoming more of a necessity to have some names handy.

MAMAS, CBEs, and MWs: "how do you plan to educate your community about doulas this month?"

I share links all over Facebook about birthing and nursing, I also give whatever information I have on the subject of birthing and nursing to lots of mamas on Cafemom.com, and answer lots of specific questions from other Cafemom members.

As a Mama, I will be sharing my desire to use a Doula at our local LLL meeting this month. We talk a lot about NCB, and I am planning a VBAC. I have found lots of suport at LLL and love to continue to meet other Mamas in similar situations. I am counting aon using a Doula to help me acheive my VBAC-med free!

I had a doula for the birth of my daughter Hannah, now 5 and really felt she made a difference for us. As well as helping with the birthday she had tons of great tips for us during pregnancy and afterwards for the baby that helped in many big and small ways. I always recommend a doula to people I know who are pregnant and will always continue to do so!

These dolls are truly beautiful. I was lucky enough to see the original prototype! Adriana (and her team) create a wonderful "product" (somehow that doesn't seem to be the right word!), and her family is behind her all the way. They walk the talk. I currently teach infant and toddler development classes for early childhood educators, and would love to use a Mamamor doll in my teaching. As an adult, I love the dolls. And as someone hoping for new babes in my family in the not-too-distant future, I would be thrilled to put Julia into the hands of a child!

As a mom who is expecting her third baby-- and who will birth for the first time with a doula (!)-- I will be telling my children about what a doula does and how a doula will help mommy. I have seen these dolls for a while now and would love to be able to use them as an educational tool for my children.

I think these dolls are BEAUTIFUL! As a doula and CBE for low-income women, I would bring her to all my client meetings to illustrate birth, breastfeeding, babywearing, and I would also teach older siblings about birth and breastfeeding in a beautiful way with the mama and baby! This is such a wonderful product!

As a mama and acupuncturist who specializes in pregnancy care, I am always encouraging women to find support during labor and post-partum - and I regularly recommend doulas. Go doulas... we love you!!

LOVE these dolls! Have been thinking about getting one for my daughter for sometime.... what a great giveaway!

I'm a mother of 3 and a natural birth advocate and lactivist. I always recommend any expecting mother to hire a doula for emotional and physical support before, during, and after childbirth.

I hope to bring Julia to the next LLL meeting!

As a Doula i would use Julia to aid children in understanding normal birth and what wasgoing to happen to mummy. I would promote normal, birth, breastfeeding and babywearing and family bond!

As a mom I would love to have this doll to teach my own three daughters about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and bonding. Educating the community about doulas just flows from living your life in a way that is positive toward natural birth and baby care and letting other women know that doulas are a great option for them if they too want to have a well-supported natural birth.

I am a mom of 3, and a studying Doula. I have "educated" my family, friends, and community this month by sharing some of the interesting facts/ideas I have gained from all of my new Doula friends!

I'm a doula and would love the honour of having Julia to help teach parents about physiological birth and birthing positions. It would be lovely to have her to show parents different breastfeeding positions and baby wearing as well.
Julia would also be loved and adored by my three little girls who are all baby obsessed, (so much so that I fear we will have to have a doll each lol!)

I love this doll. I am a doula and would love to use this with clients to explain positions of mom and baby for birth and nursing. I think it would be great to use with siblings or even my own children. To let them see what is really going on during pregnancy, birth, and nursing. This reminds me of a little girl I watched and she saw me nursing my little one. I did let her mom know she was very curious. Her mom told me she went home that night and was nursing her baby doll. What our children see is what they perceive to be normal. Thank you for this wonderful doll.

As a doula, I would bring this doll to my prenatals to demonstrate the process of birth, baby-wearing, and breastfeeding. I would also use the doll to show my toddler what mommy does when she is away at births :)

I think I would mainly use Julia for my clients' children. What a wonderful way to explain to them what will happen and what is natural for babies to do!

"how do you plan to educate your community about doulas this month?"

I always recommend my pregnant friends consider hiring a doula. It feels like someone is always getting pregnant!

As a mom of 2 I try to educate people by telling them how much having a doula at the birth of my second meant to me. I think the birth of my first would've been a lot different if I had a doula there also.

I have been and will continue to tell everyone I know of the value of doulas. I will also campaign for pay equity fir midwives as I have done all month.

I love her page! I have been drooling over her dolls for sooo long but I just can't afford one as I'm in the process of being a single mom pursuing a degree as a doula and i think this would be a wonderful tool to have.

I was excited to learn that it is doula month! I am a first time mom, and after the birth of my premature baby 7 months ago, I am convinced that every mom needs a doula present at birth, whether your birth ends up going as planned or not! I have several pregnant friends who I am encouraging to hire doulas. I was so inspired by my birthing experience that I recently ordered a certification packet and am starting on my doula training! YEAH for doulas!!!

I'm training to be a doula and even just the mention of my study opens a conversation about it. I would love to win this doll for my kids. My 4 yr old is often talking about birth and I heard him with his friend yesterday telling him that babies come out the vagina, which only girls have - he could use the doll to educate his friends :)

I have been a fan of these dolls for a while and think they are fabulous. As a birth doula and child birth educator, I work with a lot of moms who have one or more children who are already earthside. I find they are absolutely fascinated with birth and often wish to be a part of the process (and usually the mama is excited to have them participate as well!)

I offer special classes that involve close personal interaction with the siblings of the coming baby. This includes fetal development, birth education, the joys and importance of breastfeeding, basic infant safety and newborn care, and a question and answer period. This doll would be a delight to aid in this endeavor!

I share your website as well as the site for Mam Amour dolls to my clients and friends and so I naturally have shared the contest many times over on Facebook and via emails.

Thanks for honoring the birthing community and I'm excited for whoever wins!!

I love these dolls! As a holistic lactation consultant, I promote the importance of doulas in prenatal breastfeeding classes (5 classes lined up for June). Birth doulas help moms achieve normal birth that will facilitate breastfeeding. Postpartum doulas help moms get breastfeeding off to a good start and take care of other things so mom can cuddle and nurse her baby!

This doll will be the perfect assistant for my breastfeeding support groups, especially when big siblings come along!

I am very new to doula services and childbirth education. Also, I just heard of these adorable dolls. I am not sure how exactly I would use them. As soon as I share this I am gonna read all the suggestions! =}

As a mother to three little ones, I know how important it is for the mother to be mothered! I always tell friends that they need a doula to mother them when they become mamas.

I had a doula for the birth of my second child after my husband was no help with keeping me relaxed during the birth of my first. I am always spreading the word of my experience with other mamas and mamas to be. My doula was wonderful and has now aided in the birth of 4 babes in my family. I know that if I am graced with another pregnancy she will be one if the first phone calls I make.

I was so excited to see that I won, but missed out by hours :( - as # 3 has been drawn. This is in no way an indication of my lack of interest :) Julia is lovely and the workmenship that goes into the MamaAmor dolls blows me away and makes me smile all at once.

This reminds me of playing bingo as a child and when I heard Bingo I dumped the markers off my board only to realize that it was a false Bingo and an older gentleman leaned over to say - never dump your markers until it has been verified (life lesson # 56901). I Guess I should have kept checking.

I'm sure the next winner will be thrilled. Thank you!!!

As a birth doula, I would love to have this beautiful mama doll tucked in my bag. As she is a wonderfully tactile doll, she is calling out for the hands of a child. The obvious way I would use her would be in explaining breastfeeding or birth to older siblings when working with a pregnant mom. Even if she is just passed to a child to play with while I chat with mom, it would be perfect. No explanations are necessary! Children can learn through play very well. I also think this doll would be useful when explaining things to moms, especially if you have a mom who is a bit more reserved. She may be more receptive to this cozy doll as a visual learning tool, rather than a more graphic medical chart. Many thanks for offering this beautiful doll! -Sesch Wren
