Clean Giveaway

Well, I never expected to get the response that I did with my post, Exposed. It received the highest hit count I have ever gotten in just 48 hours. Hopefully, that means people are reconsidering what they are putting on their bodies and into their children.

In addition, I saw it fly around facebook and received some personal emails about people asking additional questions about toxic additives. YAY, I love being privy to that 'aha' moment in people's lives - it is truly inspiring!

Because of all of this, I am honored and delighted to be able to offer a clean giveaway (not clean getaway) for one lucky reader!

This giveaway has been donated by Kiss My Face and includes:
That is a TON of product that is worth $94.00 at retail price!

There are just a few rules:
  • You must submit a separate comment for every entry you make
  • You must complete the first entry before you are eligible to do any of the other entries
  • If you win, you must give one full set (1/2 of the goods) to a friend who you think could benefit from changing their body care products to something more eco- and health-conscious.
  • If you win, you must come back, tell us who you gifted 1/2 the stuff to, and give a review of the products.
So, to enter, remember, you must do #1 before you do any of the others, but you can do as many as you want after #1, and in any order. You also must submit a separate comment for each entry you make to have them count. :) Be sure that there is a way for me to get in contact with you if you win (website or email):
  1. Comment on what surprising thing you learned from the post, Exposed.
  2. Post this giveaway on your FB wall
  3. "friend" or "like" Kiss My Face on FB and/or go to their website and tell me what product you are most interested in and why
  4. Post a link back to this blog post on your own blog
Entries will be closed on Friday, Nov 19th, at midnight EST. Drawing will occur that weekend with a winner announced on Monday, Nov. 22nd. Sorry, but this giveaway is only open to the continental U.S. Good luck!

I wasn't terribly surprised by what I read, with my background in American environmental history. My reaction to "Exposed" was that at a certain point, you can't really do all that much to limit your exposure to environmental contaminants. A lot of them come via mechanisms that we can't control or filter out. Not saying that we should just put anything and everything into our bodies, but I wonder how much good purchasing (lovely but often quite expensive) "natural" or organic products will make in limiting our overall chemical exposure. I think a better focus than individual consumption is state- and nationwide regulation of such substances.

I went to their website and I think I'd be most interested in their lotions/moisturizers, because those stay on your skin. Soaps and shampoos get washed off, so if I were trying to prioritize my purchasing, I'd go for lotions first.

I always go to EWG to check out products.... sunscreen was a biggy this year, and with my daughters having eczema and asthma issues, we are always on top of what we put in and on our bodies. I love KMF products. My daughter did, however, have a reaction to a lavender lotion from KMF.... What a great giveaway!! I have so many great friends who could benefit from these products, too!

I was shocked to see that even today, with all of the information we have about the harmful effects of mercury that it is still found in products. It's scary and really shows how important it is to really look at what we're buying and using.

I never thought about face paint, and although it's not something we use every day, it ends up staying on my son ALL day. Who wants to wash off a Spiderman mask, right? It then reminded me of my "face paint" (aka: my daily make up routine). I'm so quick to watch out for my kiddos, but often make cheap, habit-based choices for myself. Thanks for the information and the giveaway opportunity.

I had no idea that parafins were dangerous. I just had my second daughter and had a pedicure while I was pregnant. Thank you for this information!

I would never have thought fragrances, though of course typically not natural, would have so many possible adverse effects!

I did not know that collagen is considered a questionable ingredient, and comes from chicken feet. I knew about mineral oil, fragrances, dimethicones (silicones, -cones), mercury, lead and some others. "Exposed" was a very infortmative article! Great job!

Learned that paraffins trap moisture in and don't let skin breathe properly...and that collagen is made from ground chicken feet!! Ick!

Love Kiss my Face stuff. I always have a "scent memory" of my favorite coffee shop from my hometown that *always* had Kiss My Face soap in their bathrooms. I can still smell that soap in my memory even now.
